If you require extra protection from fire for Commercial and Domestic properties, McLaren & Co are authorised suppliers of Flame Retardant Decorative Finishes.

Using a variety of heat resistant coatings such as Thermocoat and Firetex, we can provide an extra layer of protection to buildings.

How does it work?

Flame Retatdant Decorative Finishes work by utilising chemical reactions when the coating is exposed to high temperatures. In the event of a fire the coating will expand to 50 times its thickness, keeping structural elements such as steel girders below their critical temperature and so helping to maintain the structural integrity of the building. Different coatings can be applied to different materials, such as steel girders, wooden panels etc. Both Thermocoat and Firetex have been rigorously tested by independent assessors to guarantee their integrity under conditions of intense heat.

Assessment is largely based upon tests carried out a NAMAS approved laboratory or Fire Research Centre Fire Test Laboratory to BS476 Part 21.

Fire Certification Users of these coatings can be issued with a certificate which can be used for Insurance, Fire and Building Control Authority records.

Choice of Finishes

Metal areas can be coated in Gloss, Eggshell or Clear Matt finishes in a variety of colours to complement the surrounding decoration.

Wooden areas can be treated with a clear varnish that is compatible with most wood stains and dyes without detracting from the natural appearance of the wood.
